History

Ghana Lifesaving and Diving Association (GHALDA) was formed in November 2010 under the leadership of Mr. Kwami Kpodoh, who was an American Swimming Coaches Association Level 3 Swim Coach, FINA swimming Referee (Swimming & Open Water Swimming), Technical Director of the Ghana Swimming Association, Lifeguard trainer and Assessor at Lincoln Community School, Abelemkpe in Accra.

GHALDA was establish to prevent drowning and aiming at improving water safety, water rescue, lifesaving, lifeguarding and also to promote swimming and organize lifesaving sports.

GHALDA is non-political, non-religious, national association that spearheads the effort to reduce injury and death in, on, or around the water.
Our mission is to promote beach and pool safety awareness and professional open-water lifesaving standards.

Our members include lifeguards, junior lifeguards, navy personnel, swimmers, swimming teachers and coaches; first aider instructors, swimming officials, water safety instructors, lifeguard trainers from all over Ghana.

Ghalda is affiliated to the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS), Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) and Royal National Lifeboat Institute(RNLI)
